Easy crochet heart FREE PATTERN

February 08, 2019

Hello there! ❤︎

Here you can find a crochet heart pattern free.

A heart can be added to any of your amigurumi toys to make their image more fulfilling. A crochet heart can act as Valentine's card. Or you can make several hearts, combine them in a garland and decorate your room. There are so many uses, I would love it if you could share pictures of your finished amigurumi heart and how you used it. I look forward to seeing your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #knittedstorybears and will be sure to share them in my @knittedstorybears account stories! ❤︎

The crochet heart pattern is suitable for beginners, as it contains many step-by-step photos and detailed text instructions.

So, what materials and tools will you need:

  • yarn (it can be any yarn you like)
  • hook (suitable size for your chosen yarn)
  • stuffing (fiberfill, etc.)
  • scissors, needle for stitching parts.

I liked using these types of yarn to crochet hearts:
Rico Design Creative Cotton DK yarn + 2.5 mm crochet hook
Rico Design Ricorumi DK yarn + 2.5 mm crochet hook
Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn + 2.5 mm crochet hook

Depending on the thickness of the yarn, and the size of the hook, you can get a crochet heart of different sizes. That is, the thicker the yarn, the larger the heart you will end up with.

Abbreviations that are used when crocheting a heart:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • [number] - number of loops in a row.

We will be crocheting in a spiral, that is, without joining stitches at the end of each row.

If you are completely new to crocheting, you first need to learn how to crochet basic loops. I'm already preparing my own detailed course on the basics of crochet toys, and as soon as it's ready, there will be a link to it here. It will contain all the information you need, from yarn and hook selection, to photo and video tutorials on all the loops and skills.

And while the course is in progress, I suggest you check out the crocheting lessons on YouTube.

Let's start to crochet!

First piece

Rnd 1: 2 ch /pic.1/, 6 sc in second ch from a hook /pic.2-3/ [6]

Rnd 2: 6 inc /pic.4-5/ [12]

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * repeat 6 times /pic.6/ [18]

Rnd 4: 18 sc /pic.7/ [18]

At this point, we will finish the first piece for now. But don't finish the crocheting and don't tighten the loop, just take the unfinished loop off the hook and cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches (15 cm) /pic. 8/.

Second piece

Rnd 1-4: repeat the same as for the first pattern

Only at this point, we don't finish crocheting, but we join the two pieces together /pic. 9/.

Let's join the two pieces into one.

The last stitch of the second piece stays on the hook, then we insert the hook into the last stitch of the first piece (the one we took off the hook) /pic.10-11/.

Now insert the hook into the next loop on the first piece /pic.12-13/.

Now we have three loops on the hook /pic.13/, grab the working thread /pic.14/ and pull it through these three loops /pic.15-16/.

Continue to crochet 15 sc by the loops of the first piece, skipping the last two loops /pic.17/.

Now we continue to crochet by the loops of the second piece, skipping the first two loops, and start to crochet from the third /pic.18-19/, 16 sc. Total at the end we get a circle of 32 stitches /pic.20/.

Rnd 1: 32 sc /pic.21/ [32]

At this point, we need to sew up the hole that was left from the skipped loops between the two pieces. To do this, use a needle, and the tail that we left on the first piece, sew up the hole /pic.22-23/.

Rnd 2: 6 sc, 2 dec, 12 sc, 2 dec, 6 sc /pic.24/ [28]

Rnd 3: 5 sc, 2 dec, 10 sc, 2 dec, 5 sc /pic.25/ [24]

Rnd 4: 4 sc, 2 dec, 8 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc /pic.26/ [20]

Rnd 5: 3 sc, 2 dec, 6 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc [16]

Stuff the heart /pic.27/.

Rnd 6: 2 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc, 2 dec, 2 sc /pic.28/ [12]

Rnd 7: 1 sc, 2 dec, 2 sc, 2 dec, 1 sc /pic.29/ [8]

Rnd 8: 4 dec /pic.30/ [4]

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches (15 cm). Pull the working thread through the loop on the hook, thus ending the crocheting /pic. 31/.

Next, using a needle, thread the tail through all the front loops of the last row /pic.32-33/.

Pull tightly /pic.34/, insert the needle into the middle of a circle /pic.35/ and pull the thread through the heart, take out the other side /pic.36/. Then fasten off and weave in the yarn end /pic.37/.

The crochet 3d heart is done!

    1. Hi! I show how to connect on the pics 6-10. Pics 6-7: you just insert hook into not finished loops of detail 1 and detail 2. Now you have 2 loops on the hook. Then you crochet single crochet in next stitch, pics 9-10: insert hook into stitch on the left, grab the yarn and pull it through this stitch, now you have three loops on the hook. Grab yarn and pull it through all three loops on the hook. Continue to make single crochet stitches: 15 sc follow the stitches on this detail. Then skip the last two stitches on this detail and two stitches in the beginning on second detail, and make sc in third stitches of the second detail (pic.11)
