Privacy policy

Short version: this is a private hobby blog. It has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it doesn't share your data with anyone. The details are below.

Visiting the website

When you open a page, your browser sends technical information to the server this site runs on: your IP address, the page you asked for, the date and time, and your browser type. This is needed to deliver the page to you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in running the website). The server does not keep access logs, and this information is not combined with any other data.

All fonts, images and scripts come from this website's own server. No content is loaded from other companies, such as Google Fonts, unless you choose to play a video (see below).

Cookies and tracking

This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies are set by the comment system when you add your name to write a comment (see below).

Your crochet progress

When you tick off rounds in a pattern, your progress is saved in your own browser (so-called local storage) so it's still there next time. It never leaves your device and is not sent to the server. You can clear it with the "Clear all ticks" button on the pattern or by clearing your browser data. This storage is strictly necessary for the feature you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).

Comments

Comments run on Remark42, a comment system hosted on this website's own server (comments.knittedstorybears.com). When you write a comment, the name you enter, your comment and the time it was posted are stored and shown publicly under the pattern. You only give a name: there are no accounts and no sign-in with other services. Remark42 keeps only a user ID and a user name; the ID and name are stored in scrambled (hashed) form. To remember your name, it sets two cookies: a login token and a random security token. There is no tracking.

The legal basis is your consent when you post a comment (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Comments stay online until you ask for them to be removed. You can download or delete everything the comment system knows about you from its settings, or email me.

Comments written on the old Blogger version of this blog were moved here and are shown under each pattern, with the name the commenter used at the time. If one of them is yours and you'd like it removed, email me.

YouTube videos

Some patterns include a video hosted on YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). The video only loads when you press "Play video". It then loads from youtube-nocookie.com, and YouTube receives your IP address and information about your browser. Google may process this data in the USA. The legal basis is your consent, given by pressing play (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Details:policies.google.com/privacy.

Links to other websites

Links to Instagram, Ravelry, Pinterest, Facebook or YouTube are plain links. Nothing is sent to those services until you click one; after that, their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data stored about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to its processing (Art. 15–21 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future. Just email me atvira@knittedstorybears.com.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one in the country or German state where you live.
